After working on this for about 7 hours, I figure it out. Whew, it was a lot of work and hair pulling, but XML Notepad has been a trusted friend for years and I was not about to leave her behind on the battlefield. Aw shucks, it was the least that I could do, she has been good to me and giving me her all for years and it made me happy to figure out what was ailing her. It appears that the later .NET Frameworks are not compatible. During the experience, I also found that there was a problem with XamlPadX, it fixed her too. Also, during the experience, I have really made intimate friends with Windows 8 and just beginning to love her too. I am such an easy boy. Maybe actually a real a first class wh!@# for this stuff. This is Friday night and I should be prowling around somewhere putting myself to good use! LOL.

Doing this fixed her for me:
Install .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 and an update for the .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1.

I get a dialog box with this message when I try to use XML Notepad. The dialog disappears without any solution suggestions.

I am using Windows 8? I have had no other issues with Windows 8, so I am reluctant to be suspicious of it. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what might be causing it or how I might diagnose what might be causing it?

Hi All,

I am a complete newbie to working with XML/TMX files.

I have a TMX file which contains translations for 6 languages, thousands of body entries per language.

I need to remove 4 of those languages so that there is only 2 languages in the TMX file.

Each language has a tag such as:

<tuv xml:lang="EN">
        <seg>RESOLUTION 55/100</seg>
      </tuv>
      <tuv xml:lang="AR">
        <seg>Ø§Ù„Ù‚Ø±Ø§Ø± 55/100</seg>
      </tuv>
      <tuv xml:lang="ZH">

      </tuv>
      <tuv xml:lang="FR">
        <seg>RÃ‰SOLUTION 55/100</seg>
      </tuv>
      <tuv xml:lang="RU">
        <seg>Ð Ð•Ð—ÐžÐ›Ð®Ð¦Ð˜Ð¯ 55/100</seg>
      </tuv>
      <tuv xml:lang="ES">
        <seg>RESOLUCIÃ“N 55/100</seg>
      </tuv>

There are thousands of these types of entries.

I would like to remove the RU, FR, ZH and AR entries and be left with only the EN and ES.

How would I go about doing this.

For example, ignore namespaces, ignore processing instructions, etc...

Could you please clarify the relationship between the XmlDiffPatch provided at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa302294.aspx and the XmlDiff part in the Xml Notepad project ?
Looking at the source code this seems to be the new home of the XmlDiffPatch. Is it ?

Does anybody agree that XML Notepad should support getting XML string from clipboard?
I do a lot of trouble-shooting work to analyze workflow context data in XML format. What I get from SQL server or my own debugger UI is a XML string, but XML Notepad only can read XML data from file system.
I did a little improvement to add clipboard import/export funtion to XML notepad, if you are intrested, here's my post:

Hello,
I want to have many languages in the Dynamic Help. So in my XSD I add the following lines:
<xs:element name="myElemName" type="xs:string">
<xs:annotation>
<xs:documentation xml:lang="fr">Help in french</xs:documentation>
<xs:documentation xml:lang="en">Help in english</xs:documentation>
<xs:appinfo>Application Information</xs:appinfo>
</xs:annotation>
</xs:element>

But, in the XML Notepad, I only see the first xml:lang defined. In this case, only the french help will be displayed.
Is there a possibility to select one language ?
I hope my explanations are enough clear.

Yes, but sometimes vs.net2005 SP1 (not installed Vista update though, running on XP) says (say when changing Language field of the form to "Greek") that the "designer didn't return the root object without saying why" (that's how it says it, something like that). Closing and saving the form and reopening it fixes the issue though each time and your changes are kept ok (say the "Language" setting - I was localizing the gui).

btw, I'd like to contribute greek localization (no greek help file though for now) if some addition to use current culture gui is implemented (see issue tracker)

nope.. not done yet.. get messages:

The designer could not be shown for this file because none of the classes within it can be designed. The designer inspected the following classes in the file: MyForm --- The base class 'XmlNotepad.FormMain' could not be loaded. Ensure the assembly has been referenced and that all projects have been built.

when trying to open those forms in the designer...

it seems MainForm.Designer.cs and some other .Designer.cs files are missing (for some of the forms at the XMLNotepad.dll project)

seeing same issue at issue tracker, it seems it's enough to uncomment #define DESIGN at the top of the form

This project doesn't seem to have all the stuff necessary to open the Designer, and thereby change the form. Is there something I am doing wrong?

Hi Paul,

I've checked in the missing PublishDrop.cmd file. It doesn't do much - just copies the build to a "drop" folder where the Setup project grabs the bits when building the installer.
